Unbelievably, everyone who asked actually wanted a dog. It wasn’t a case of, oh, I want a dog or what have you, it was, now we want a dog,” Brittney Veurink, owner of Doodles and Dors, said.
During the puppy boom of 2020, dogs were flooded with orders from all over the world.
“It was crazy, we had to talk puppies and we were going to have the next litter, that’s what the talk was,” Veurink said. “It was intense.”

“In 2021 we have ventured to get a better and bigger building, just to make the dogs more comfortable,” said Veurink.

“Bissell really sponsors this adoption event, it helps us by lowering our adoption fees,” said front office manager Emily Adkins. “Dogs are $25 and cats are $5.”
While these happen a few times a year, she says about 10 to 15 individual cares per day during the event.

“They usually only do a week and a half to two weeks, but this time they’re doing three weeks,” Adkins said. “By extending the event, it helps those animals move faster as there is more room.”
The empty stage adoption event runs until July 30. About 40 cats and 30 dogs have been adopted so far.
“It’s a good time, because this time of year we see most of our animals come into shelters, you see puppies, you see puppies, you see puppies, animals that are not spayed and have puppies, and those litters take a lot. space,” Adkins said.
