Anatolian Shepherd Dog Breeds Pictures – In origin, the Anatolian Shepherd Dog [also known as Karabas (Blackhead), Çoban Köpegi (Shepherd dog) and Anadolulu Karabas (Anatolian Blackhead)] is an Turkish breed. It is originally developed to be a guardian dog. It is said that the Anatolian Shepherd Dog is a cross from Akbash dog and Kangal dog.

The male Anatolian Shepherd Dog Karabas heights from 71 to 76 cm (from 28 to 30 inches) and it weights from 45 to 68 kg (from 100 to 150 pounds). The female Çoban Köpegi heights from 66 to 71 cm (from 26 to 28 inches) and it weights from 41 to 59 kg (from 90 to 130 pounds). This breed has two types of coats: medium-long and medium-length. They look heavier than they are because of their coat’s thickness. The thick double coat can be in almost any color. Masks and patches are acceptable. Most common is fawn with white or black masks.
This breed’s coat doesn’t require much grooming. The coat requires to be brushed once or twice a week in warm weather. This breed is seasonal and heavy shedder.

This Anatolian Shepherd Dog breed is loyal, intelligent, trainable, clam and brave. It is good and very protective to children. It is born to be a guardian dog so it can easily be trained. It needs lots of exercises and long daily walks. It will do best in a house with a big yard where it can run freely. It is not recommended for apartment life.
